Dear Barbara,
Happy New Year!  We pray you had a blessed Christmas celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Can you believe the Spring Emmaus season is fast upon us?  The first men's walk is in early February, with six more to follow.

If you know someone who is ready to attend a walk, there is still space available on all of the upcoming Spring weekends, so get those applications in.  We have provided a quick link for you on the left.  If you know someone who is not quite sure Emmaus is for them, please direct them to one of the informational meetings coming up in February (details below) where we can try to answer their questions.

Mount Pisgah will be hosting the April gathering, but we will need your help to ensure it is a success!  Read below to see how you can volunteer to serve that evening.

Finally, we would love to hear from you!  Let us know what information we should include in future newsletters so this communication is of value to you.  Until next month...

DeColores from your Emmaus Leadership Team!

emmaus information meetings

INFOThe Mount Pisgah Emmaus Leadership Committee has scheduled two general information meetings in February to help you learn more about getting plugged in to your community.  If you want to learn more about being a sponsor or a servant on an upcoming Walk, or how to extend your fourth days in a reunion group or learn more about opportunties to use your hands and feet to help build His kingdom, please join us!  The meetings will be held in Room A006 on the south campus:
  1. February 4, 2007, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
  2. February 11, 2007, 12:30pm - 1:30pm

If you'd like to learn more but can't make one of the meetings, please contact  Bill & Kathryn Bulloch

mount pisgah to host april gathering
Gatherings

Mark your calendar for Friday, April 13 at 7:30pm, when Mount Pisgah will host the North Georgia Emmaus Community at a Gathering. We will need many volunteers (greeters, hospitality, ushers, nursery, etc.) to help us host the community. If you are interested in serving, please contact: Gina Kubie.

Hands and Feet

Every Pilgrim needs a Sponsor.  Now that you have participated in Emmaus, please think about sharing the joy of your experience as a Sponsor.  Good Sponsorship is vital to the Emmaus Community and it is the first act of agape before the Pilgrim's walk even begins.  If you would like to learn more about becoming a Sponsor, please contact Cynthia Bolick our Sponsor Coordinator.

We have two special needs:
Wayne Clark is sponsoring Fred Bradley on Walk #122, February 8 - 12.  Unfortunately, Wayne will be out of town that weekend.  He is taking care of collecting all the letters, but needs someone to be responsible for getting Fred to camp on Thursday and back home on Sunday.  Does anyone know Fred who would be willing to help Wayne out?

Amy Grossman is sponsoring Leila Wesley de Souza on Walk #153 March 22 - 25.  Amy has been asked to serve on this walk in the conference room which will keep her from getting Leila to camp on Thursday afternoon.  Also, we need somone to be on emergency stand-by should something happen to Leila during the weekend that would cause her to need to leave the camp.  Amy is collecting all of her letters and will be able to get her home on Sunday.

If you can help out with either of these situations, please contact Cynthia.

Shuttle Bus

Remember the feeling as a Pilgrim when the Emmaus Community filled the dining room on Saturday night with songs, smiles and love?  How about the feeling you took away the last time you participated in Candlelight at King's Retreat?

Come join the Mount Pisgah Emmaus Community in fellowship as we shuttle to King's Retreat each Candlelight service this Spring.  We had great fun on the Fall Walks and would love to fill one or two buses for each of the Spring Walks.  There are two options:  departure at 5:15 with a supper stop on the way to King's Retreat, or an express shuttle departing at 6:15.  All buses will depart from North Campus at the portico (bridge) entrance to the lower level.

Please send an e-mail to Scott Kubie to reserve your seat!  (Include Candlelight date, time preference and number of riders).

  2. If you are interested in becoming an approved shuttle driver. It's easy! All you have to do it fill out a DMV form and give the church a copy of your Driver's License.

new web site

ChrysalisWe are working on an Emmaus web page on the new Mount Pisgah website. It is our plan to post upcoming walk dates, pilgrims, servants and other general information there so you can see it at any time. It should be ready by the next newsletter so we can just link you to this information in the future.
Please let Mike Fitzgerald know if you have content suggestions for the site.

Christmasfirst mpumc emmaus community Christmas party and pilgrim celebration a success!

On Sunday, December 3, 2006, about 100 of us celebrated Christmas in a special way for the Mount Pisgah Emmaus Community. The "special guests" were all of the Mount Pisgah Pilgrims who attended their Walk in the Fall of 2006, their Sponsors and all of the Servants from Mount Pisgah who served on a Fall Walk. This was the first time for this "new" event in Mount Pisgah but will be an ongoing tradition celebrating each Spring and Fall Walk going forward. We will plan another celebration around Easter to honor the Pilgrims, Sponsors and Servants for the Spring Walks.

Mike and Karen Vaughn and the Mount Pisgah Cooking Team provided their delicious BBQ pork and it was topped off with the old fashioned "covered dish" veggies, desserts, salads and snacks brought by all attendees. Valorie Deel led us in praise and worship music and each Emmaus Coordinator from the Mount Pisgah Emmaus Committee gave a brief update on the activities and services they are offering for new Pilgrim candidates and all of us on our Fourth Day continuing walk.

Andy and Tom Reed designed and created a beautiful custom Christmas Tree ornament as agape for each person at the celebration.

The Emmaus movement has played an important role in the spiritual growth of everyone I know who has attended.  As you know, one of the key purposes of Emmaus is for us to take the passion and excitement we experience over those three days and bring it back into our church for our Fourth Days.  As I look around Mount Pisgah, I see so many who have done just that.  I think you would be amazed if you knew just how many leaders and disciples in Mount Pisgah received their "jump start" on that Emmaus Weekend.

We encourage you to "become" a special guest for an upcoming Celebration by sponsoring a Pilgrim and/or by serving on one of the Walks. Contact your Emmaus Sponsor or Servant Coordinator for more information or write to us.

walk to emmaus - my story
by bill bulloch

Cross

What an impact the Walk to Emmaus has had on my life!  Who would have thought a simple 3-day retreat could so dramatically change a person's life?

One Sunday, during Dr. Hunt's sermon, he mentioned the Walk to Emmaus.  My wife, Kathryn, filled out the card in the bulletin and told me we were going.  Neither of us had any idea what we were signing up for, and had never heard a single thing about it.  We just figured that since the preacher was talking about it in church it probably would do us some good.  Our sponsors, whom we did not know, met with us and got us ready for the weekend.  After meeting with them, we still had no idea what was in store.

I arrived at the meeting looking forward to a few days away from work, but still not sure why I was there.  That would quickly become apparent on Friday morning.  After the quiet time on Thursday evening, the Friday morning talk was received with a clear mind.  Priorities.  There could not have been a better way for Him to speak to me.

I was working at a job that was wearing me out, from 6:30 am, oftentimes to 8:00 pm.  Our first child was on the way, and already my time at home was short.  The Priority talk was just what I needed to hear to know that mine were out of whack. The speaker, Kevin Latty, became instrumental to me in repositioning myself for a life more in-line with God's priorities.  I knew that morning that I would quit my job when I got home, but I had no idea what I was going to do next.

The rest of the weekend was powerful.  The talks and fellowship were beyond measure. I also met my "new best friend" on the first day, who actually became my New Best Friend.  An unlikely pairing, an English gentleman named Simon Mortimer and a Southern gentleman like me.  But God knew we were to meet, and this meeting has enriched me in many powerful ways.  Simon and his wife Bernadine are now the Godparents to our first born child, Carrison.

I came home from the weekend and told Kathryn, who still had no idea what was in store for her on her Walk in a few days, that I was quitting my job.  She saw the Holy Spirit in me and immediately agreed to this big step.  A new baby due in 4 months and she reinforced the calm that God had instilled over the weekend. Wow!

The next several months were peaceful and calm, maybe more than any other period in our lives.  God wanted to "empty our minds" of the clutter and prepare us for a new way.  Eventually He led us into the mortgage business, and we couldn't be happier.  The path has not been without struggles, but each time we pray to Him about this He makes it more and more clear that this is the path that He has chosen for us.

Since the Walk to Emmaus, God has revealed Himself to us in so many ways.  I believe that He was waiting for us to listen, really listen, before He showed us what was ahead.  He knew that the time spent at the Kings Retreat would be an investment in the new schedule He had planned for us. And what a schedule it has been!  Our Fourth Days have been filled with service and praise.  We've made new friendships at the church that will be lifelong, and have entered into a new relationship with Him that has changed our lives, all because of a few days spent with a group of strangers at the Kings Retreat.
